Bich Dong Pagoda is one of Ninh Binh's most atmospheric and photogenic temples. Part of the Tam Coc – Bich Dong scenic area, the pagoda was built in the 15th century into the face of a limestone karst cliff and consists of three levels - Ha (Lower), Trung (Middle), and Thuong (Upper) - each offering increasingly impressive views and spiritual ambiance.
The Three Levels
- Ha Pagoda (Lower): The entrance level, set behind a stone bridge crossing a lotus pond. Beautiful traditional architecture with curved roofs.
- Trung Pagoda (Middle): Built into a cave in the cliff face. The cave contains Buddhist altars and creates a cool, atmospheric worship space.
- Thuong Pagoda (Upper): The highest level, reached by steep steps. Offers panoramic views over the surrounding rice paddies and karst mountains.
